[ She grins. In a lot of ways, they're similar, although Kaoru relies less on jealousy and more on her reputation with other members of the group. The pity in this case was that the tall, geeky girl she told Puppy about - the one who is actually her type - was someone she didn't even realize was part of the group until it was too late. So she's probably ruined her chances there. But oh well.
The question that he asks makes her raise her brows slightly, because... well, no. That's her fault, isn't it? She's never directly told him, just hinted at it, barely mentioned it in passing. It's just part of her daily life, after all, something that's normal for her, like being a woman, and Japanese, and a lesbian. Things she doesn't feel she has to explicitly say. But not everyone is savvy with the knowledge that shit from comic books can actually be real life. And realistically, that's probably best for her. She has no problem with being out, so to speak, to her friends, but in general it's probably best to keep things best termed as "powers" a kind of secret.
Kaoru chuckles. ] I promise that a dermatologist can't help me, Puppy. I'll explain, but... it's kind of weird, and I don't wanna freak you out.
[ It's her way of saying: if you need to pull over so you don't crash your car, do it now. ]
I'm okay with weird, [puppy answers as he makes another turn, though there's a hint of a question at the end.] How weird are we talking about? Creepy weird? Gross weird?
[there's a lot of weirdness in puppy's life, to be sure. his dads are practically cultists, believing in an ancient phoenix god and its dragon god companion, and puppy grew up being told that he'll be eaten alive by the gods if he didn't listen to his dads or his guardians. it's only when puppy found his way into the real world that he even got an inkling about how strange his childhood had been, and even then - well, some people believe in an invisible creator god, so what's the difference?
granted, confusing santa claus with the christian god had been a very awkward period in puppy's life. he doesn't want a repeat of that any time soon.]
We're almost at the boutiques block. I hope my favorite shop's open, I wanna get new shirts.
I guess some people might think it's gross or creepy...
[ But he seems unperturbed enough by the concept of weird that Kaoru feels comfortable enough just jumping straight in. She briefly stretches out her right arm to remind him of the one tattoo she has permanently, the constellation on her wrist. ] This is the only tattoo I have that doesn't heal. I got it done when I was... 18? 19? I don't remember. But, like... you know how it's really hard for me to get drunk? And how I never get sick? It's all part of the same thing.
[ Out of habit - not to show Puppy, he's driving - Kaoru presses her fingernails into the palm of her hand, hard enough to make little crescents of blood pool on the skin. By the time she swipes the blood away, the cuts have healed. ]
If I get hurt, it heals somehow. Not like you would heal, though. Faster. When I was 24, I broke my arm when I fell off a stage in a bar, and by the time I got to emergency and got x-rays, it had fixed itself. [ She shrugs. ] I'm not sure how, or why. But ever since then, my piercings and tattoos grow out too, except the ones I had before.
