BACKGROUND By all accounts, Kaoru's early life was not particularly remarkable. Born in Sapporo, she moved to Osaka with her mother when she was seven, and lived there until she completed high school. From a young age she was enamored with computers, spending as much time on hers as her mother would allow. Initially, most of her time was spent on games, but eventually, in a bid to show her mother that computers and games weren't synonymous, she started to experiment with other programs on the system, too, and through said programs ended up discovering her other major loves: music and astrology. After high school, she moved to America to pursue a master's degree in computer science, and ended up falling in love with the country. Now a tech support specialist for a university in New York, she supplements her income by playing small gigs as the frontwoman of an indie rock band, and by doing freelance astrological readings. Every six months, she takes a week or two off in order to visit home. PERSONALITY Kaoru is a cheerful, upbeat individual who perhaps can be best described as quirky. A perfectionist by nature, she has a magnetic personality and an easy kind of self-confidence, comfortable to live as she likes without caring too deeply about what others think. She has learned that there is no point in dwelling on the could haves and should haves of the past; instead, Kaoru believes in remembering the lessons learned, moving on, enjoying the present and striving for an ever-better future. When it comes to her interactions with others, Kaoru is relatively mutable, more interested in going with the flow and supporting others than trying to control them. That doesn't mean, though, that she's a pushover - when the situation calls for it, she's quick to stand firm, and she will always defend her friends and loved ones without hesitation.
